Love those Fridays

A few glimpses from around the house on a Friday morning.

A golden glimmering candle in the living room.

Still snow in the garden, but since this picture was taken the heavy wind has blown it around and rearranged it somewhat.

In the kitchen, a tray for oils and othe cooking gear.

A stack of pillows waiting to go to a more permanent storage on top of the closet.

Love that it's Friday!
Have a wonderful weekend.

By the chair

I need some inspiration these days. Feeling a bit empty.
So I got out the favourite chair (trying to overlook the fact that the cover desperately needs a washing),  pillows and blanket at the ready, and a good sized stack of magazines.

All set to be inspired.

Got the idea for this arrangement from the first photo in this post over at Interiors Originals
- so lovely pictures.

The stack of magazines must have come from another photo:)

Keeping up with the season?

Well, I'm trying my best::)
Just as I was getting ready for spring; more light, more green, slightly higher temperature.
Then, booom - winter came back; cold, snow, white.
OK, so January's not the average spring month, I know, this was only to be expected.
On the bright side; snow does give bright light and also maybe we get to try our skies on:)

Have a wonderful weekend:)

Small changes

Fell completely in love with this wonderful quilted bed spread; lovely colours and beautiful pattern. It's perfect in my daughter's room. It wasn't quite big enough to cover the entire bed, but it still adds a warm glow to the room.

Also found this little rug, a bit small, but big enough to place one's feet when getting out of bed in the cool winter mornings.

This cute garland of forest animals and leaves decorates by the bed.
Love some decorating renewal from time to time, we found this in the store Søstrene Grene:)

Just couldn't resist it

I'm not really big on bugs and insects, but this little bowl I just couldn't resist.

It's made of the thinnest porcelain, crispy white on the outside, and on the inside two prints of  a dragonfly.
With a lit candle inside the print shows through the porecelain.

 Love the effect.

Finding colours

This is a lovely time. We're heading towards lighter days - such a relief!
Nevertheless, I found my days just a tad grey and swallowed up by the routines of every day life.
So I let the camera lense search for colours and it turned out they were right there!
I just had to take off my grey glasses:)

In an effort to colour up the everyday life a bit I 've made this list of, not NewYear's resolutions as such, nor a to-do list, but a list of ... awarenesses.

So, I want to spend more time on (in random order)
1. Family - do more fun stuff just for the sake of fun
2. Social life - have one! :)
3. Outdoor - fresh air
4. House - keep it in a make-do order - on a regular basis
5. Garden - make it grow but not overgrow
6. Economy - money awareness - planning is a key word:)
7. Exercise - shape up!
8. Appearance - put on the lipstick
9. Study - learn something
10. Read - pick up a book (and read) from time to time

Not all of these things are super exciting in itself, but will hopefully help make time and space for the more exciting stuff:)

Almost mid-January, but I'll still claim:
Now it's a fresh start. New beginning. Everything's possible. 2012 is going to be THE YEAR!

2011 sum up

The most fun surprise of the year:)

The fabulous blog Fabelaktig has got a challenge to show the best interior design photo. This picture (originally from this post) is my contribution. Go check out all the splendid contributions here.

I know this is a bit late but I thought I'd have a sum up of 2011.

I wonder, years from now (or at Easter time this year) when I'm trying to remember anything (blogwise / housewise)  from the year 2011 - will  it be that

- I started blogging : which has been so much fun, and time consuming, and really helped a lot in sorting out our house.
(So annoying that I, by accident, deleted most of the photos from the first couple of months of blogging, and that I've not taken the time to retrieve them!)
- we switched bedrooms : which was a very wise and happy decision for both my daughter and me
- painted the blue floor: no regrets there, only the colour turned out a little less turquoise than we wanted it
- made the garden shrubbery: which was really hard work! I do hope the shrubs make it through the winter - and the coming summer for that matter...
- painted the living room -all white, which I had really wanted to for a long time, but was afraid that if I started I wouldn't get it finished. But it worked out so well - love these soft matte white walls. The living room is done, but I still have more paint...
- redressed the dining room bench: which was another project that took forever from the start of planning till it was all finished. I quite like the result though.
- had a Trash Calendar all through Advent: which helped me to loose pile after pile of stuff we hardly knew we had, hardly ever or never used  and most probably will never miss at all.

Anyways this is my sum up of 2011.
And what is not mentioned is probably not worth remembering, and already forgotten:)

Holiday wrap up

Candles out for the holidays

Back to every day life today.
Christmas vacation is over. It has been a lovely couple of weeks.
We have really enjoyed this vacation both when at home and when visiting, alone or together.
Decoration for New Years Eve

Now it was time to wrap up the decoration for Christmas and NewYear.
The Christmas tree was barely holding together, the colour had become a trendy matte green, and the pins were dried up and bent.
It had served its time and yesterday I released it of duty,
along with the rest of the holiday decor.

Christmas 2011
I said in a previous post that I had these intentions for Christmas:
- make time and space for Christmas,
not just put it on top of everything else
- no style regime
(but if so - then my daughter's)
- have presents ready before December
 (yeah right!)
This is how it went:
I tried hard to make space (the trash calendar helped a lot), but as for making the time I can still improve
My daughter did a lot of the decorating initially, then lost interest. So other then keeping the decorating to a minimum there was no style regime.
And I got the last present ready on the day of Christmas Eve!
