Lazy Saturday

This has been a really laid back day.
No need to hurry for anything, we've got all the time in the world.

For lunch today we made scones, so easy and very tasty.

This vintage bowl was my mother's, but she didn't use it and didn't want it anymore as it had a crack along the side.
To me the crack is just charming :)

Fresh scones with cheese and homemade plum jam.
Doesn't get any better than that.

Easter holiday start off

It's Friday. And it's Easter break! No more going to work or school for more than a week!
We're starting off with film evening with snacks and Easter candy.
It's kind of become tradition that on the first evening of a holiday my daughter stays up as long as she likes. It's always very nice:)

Little Chicken here seems to have eyed the candy
- and she looks greedy!

Easter holiday or not - wish everyone a happy weekend :)

Red Russian

Borshch.
I've been wanting to make the Russian beetoroot soup  forever.
It looks gorgious - and I've never tasted it.

So, then, on the dinner menu for today was borshch,
and I made this Russian dish using the one beetroot I had, half an onion, half a carrot, a slice of cabbage,
and grated, peppered and boiled it all for half an hour in three dl of broth.
I was supposed to put in both bay leaf ? (laurbærblad) and vinegar but forgot all about it.
Still, it looked fantastic!
And I loved it :)

As you can see, there's just the one plate. My daughter refused to even have a taste.
So while I was busy shooting my dinner, she was in the kitchen preparing sausages in a pan :)

 Amazing colour in the beetroot.

To tell one from the other

When we planted the Dahlia pot tubers the other day we just shoved the labels in the pots,
so as to be able to tell them apart.

But this made a really messy impression.
Instead I marked each pot and the according label with a different patterned tape.

This is so much neater and I can easily tell which Dahlia is in which pot:)

A number of letters

Letters are so cool.
And particularly the typography on these cups from Design Letters.
We started with a couple of cups around Christmas.
It is not that we needed more, but now we've got four.

Coffee, tea and chocolate all taste deliciously from these cups,
And although I tried, there's not too many words to make with this letter combination.

HELB - I've got lettercupomania:)

An abundance of Dahlias and a moss mission

Dahlias is one of my absolute favourite summer flowers, I love the big, rich flowers, and that they flower so willingly and plentiful.
So today, we (really my daughter - I was just an assistant) planted five different kinds of Dahlia into six pots to spend some weeks in the living room window waiting for signs that they are growing. When the weather is warmer we'll replant them in bigger pots to keep out on the terrace.
I really hope all them will grow, although at least one or two of the pot tubers looked a bit dubious.
Fingers crossed.

After the Dahlias were done,
my eager gardener went on to remove moss in the lawn
- it's going to be quite a project, the lawn is full of it!
It's not that we're looking for the perfect lawn,  but moss makes it almost impossible to mow,
and my daughter doesn'l like the moss 'cause it makes her wet when she lies down on it!
So that's why we're on a mission to, if not remove altogheter, at least reduce the moss.
Well, at least a keen start:)

Energy

Love the energy yellow gives, as in the flowers of the Forsythia.

Happy weekend to everyone:)

Cheering up the counter

Some of my  old plastic fantastic kitchen utensils were ready for replacement.
They were worn and cracked.
The new plastic fantastics come in cheerful mint, pink and yellow
and are acting the part of bouquet on the kitchen counter.

On this springday

Today I finally got round to plant some daffodils
in the flower box that goes under the kitchen window.

Some of the daffodils had a funny croocked shape
as they had been left carelessly lying in a bag in the car for a few days.

Hopefully they will straighten out now that they are out in the open again:)

Ends' pegs

I had decided to empty my storage of yarn before I bought some more. But I'm always tempted by yarn in new cool colours, like with this cotton one from Søstrene Grene.
I've knitted some squares that I don't know quite what to make of.
Have to think about that.

Anyways, there were some leftover yarn, and it's so annoying when the ends get tangled up together and make a mess.
So I got out some clothes pegs and wrapped the leftover yarn on to them.
Very practical
- and no more loose ends:)

Got the idea on a tour around Pinterest .

Box tower

Turned out we had some available storage space.
So on my latest trip to IKEA I found these boxes on sale, and I bought a lot of them.
We build them together, my daughter and I,
we folded and screwed,
and had fun making towers :)

Now all we have to do is fill up the boxes!

Time for lunch

My new favourite food-wise: Avocado.
Looking good -
tasting yummy:)

Haven't used it much before, don't know why,
but these days it goes with anything,
breakfast, lunch, dinner or supper.

Here on rolls (warm from the oven) with ham.
Delicious!

Here I am - this is me

I rearranged the bookshelves in the living room a couple of weeks ago - and I'm very pleased with it.
It feels so me!
This has it all, because in decorating I love
- light
- books
- vintage and retro
- the severity of black & white,
- but also a splash of happy colours.
- graphic patterns, particularly stripes
- wood
- flowers

There are more pictures of the shelves in this post.

This picture is my contribution in NIB's challenge 'Here I am  - this is me'.

Muscari coming through

I'm totally infatuated with the muscari these days.
It's changing day by day, and now the buds are opening up.
The tiny bells, the soft blue.
So simple.
So beautiful.

A sunny spring day

Who could have thought that, after yesterday's grey fog that today would be the brightest day with a shining sun and the bluest sky?
It's so lovely:)
We've spent the afternoon on the terrace, had our first ice cream of the year or a cookie, a lemonade or a coffee, read the paper and done some knitting or danced on the terrace. And all this in the warmth of the sharp spring sun.
What a super start on  the weekend.

Happy  weekend to everyone!

Officially spring

It's March!
Is's officially spring!
And it's been the darkest greyest day since January!
But inside, a budding Muscari is trying to convince me that it really is spring
no matter what the colour of the day:)
