After the party

On sunday we celebrated my daughter's birthday and we invited the entire family. Not all could come, so we were 18 people, ranging from 5 months to 79 years old and coming from four generations.
We had such a great time and are so happy they could come.
The birthday girl was so pleased; she got presents, we sang for her and she made a wish before she blew the candles.
My three year old nephew wanted to stay the night with us and so he stayed behind when the rest of the party left. What a sweet and tough little guy!
The party and the preparations were hectic on my part and I didn't get round to take any photos of the food or the decoration to show for it, except this photo of one of the table decorations, which is taken after the guests have left.
It shows a wrinkled and crumbled table cloth, an empty water bottle and the games we brought out at the end of the party.
I see no one remembered to light the candles!

A happy day!

Board and lodging

I've brought home two green plants from my office to stay for free board and lodgings for the next few weeks. I figured since it is now VACATION TIME they wouldn't last on their own - all alone in the office.

Vacation! Yay!

A peek in the bathroom

I haven't been tempted to show the bathroom before, but now I've given this room a little weed out as well.

I have a love / hate relationship to the bathroom; for instance, I love the big shower and floor heating, but I don't like the unfinished feeling of it, the big window and the lack of proper storage space and lamp above the mirror. (It's all on my list of to do's)

Despite my shop-stop I went and bought a few things to shine up the bathroom. I cleared out all the cans and bottles that were outdated or not likely to be used again.
I didn't manage to clear the top of the washer of necessities, but I did tidy it up a bit and make room for some decorating stuff.
Other points on my to do list for the bathroom:
-switch the existing sink with one with a cabinet
- put up shelving and cabinets on the wall
-paint the lister window, ceiling, door
- change blinds
- put up some artwork on the wall

Kitchen - corner by corner

The kitchen in our house is just 6m2 / 65 ft2 and doesn't have much cabinet space
As in every other room I had too much stuff for the storage space available. In the kitchen it meant that much ended up in permanent storage on the kitchen counter.
These last two or three months I've tried to sort out our kitchen corner by corner, cabinet by cabinet.

So today I sorted out the work space between the cooker and the fridge.
What a droll and grey corner - didn't think about it until I saw the pictures!
Hm, I have to figure out something to do about that.

I've kept the bread box on this counter and also a container for kitchen tools too big to fit in the drawer.

There is no room for these in the cabinets, so they'll have to stay on the counter, but I've rearranged them somewhat to make the workspace bigger.

Dining room bench

Our living room is also our dining room. It's quite small but still so shaped that we can have a fairly big dining table. Last year I built a bench of IKEA kitchen cabinets, an MDF on top and an adjusted skirting at the bottom instead of legs, I didn't want the bench to be too high.

I upholstered the bench with pillows both for the seat and the back. I only used pillows I already had for this.

I started making this bench last summer and it's been in use through the year, both for seating and for storing.
But guess what - it's still not quite finished!

The last cabinet was added a little later than the rest and so it doesn't have neither top nor skirting. I haven't even put the cabinet door on, come to think of it!

Work that is left to do on it (apart from the issues of the last cabinet) is:
- painting the skirting
- painting or dressing the MDF top
- sew pillowcases for the seat pillows
- sew pillowcases for the back pillows
- put on handles (maybe)

Coffee

Coffee - my favorite beverage. I'm addicted.
I like it black and fresh - simple. Often like this; hot water and instant coffee.

My collection of coffeemaking pots and cans.
